Welcome to the Hydrance Robotics 3D Printed RC Car assembly manual. This guide walks you through every stage of the build. Read each step fully before executing it.

Screw lengths: Specific screw lengths are not called out โ€” use whichever lengths make sense for each location.
โš™๏ธ
Pro tip: Sort and organise all parts into labelled bins before starting. This single step will save significant time during assembly.

Organise Your Parts
Sort all parts into labelled bins before starting. Lay out every printed part, hardware bag, and component so nothing gets lost mid-build.

2
Insert M4×4 Threaded Inserts
Using a soldering iron set to medium heat, press each M4×4 threaded insert flush into its corresponding hole in the chassis plate. Alternatively, heat with a lighter and press carefully. Allow to cool fully before proceeding.

3
Flip and Attach Bottom Screws
Turn the chassis plate upside down. Drive 4× M4 screws through the underside mounting points.

4
Attach Side Walls & Battery Splitter
Flip the chassis back upright. Loosely attach both side walls and the battery splitter using M3 and M4 screws.
โš ๏ธ
Do not fully tighten the side walls. They must be removed again when installing the servo motor later.

5
Attach Battery Stopper & Insert Lock Nuts
Screw the battery stopper onto the battery bay using M3 screws. Then drop M4 lock nuts into the pockets at both front and rear suspension mounting locations โ€” press fully flush.

6
Mount Bottom Gearboxes
Position and screw the two bottom gearbox halves onto the chassis at each axle station using M4 screws.

7
Install Axle Supports with Bearings
Press a 5×10×4 bearing into each axle support bracket, then screw the brackets onto the gearbox housings at both ends.

8
Insert Gearboxes and Axles
Slide the small and large gearbox internals into their housings with the axle assemblies. Apply grease to the gear faces and axle journals for smooth operation.
โš ๏ธ
Critical orientation: The two gearboxes must be installed in opposite orientations. Same orientation = front and rear axles fight each other.

Mount Top Gearbox Halves
Place the top gearbox covers over the internals and secure with M4 screws โ€” 4 per gearbox, 8 total.

Install Motor Support and Motor Mount
Follow this sequence exactly: (1) slide the motor support into the chassis rail slot, (2) attach the motor mount plate with 2 M3 screws, (3) install the 21T pinion gear on the motor shaft, (4) screw the assembly to the frame with M4 screws through M4 nuts, then slide to mesh the pinion cleanly with the 64T spur gear โ€” no slop, no binding.

Install Rear Suspension Arms
Insert M4 lock nuts into the rear pivot pockets, then screw on the rear lower suspension arms. Arms should pivot freely with no excessive play.

Install Rear Wheel Hubs
Press one 10×15×4 bearing and one 5×10×4 bearing into their respective bores in each rear wheel hub. Thread the axle through the hub before screwing the top cap down โ€” the axle cannot be inserted afterwards.

Install Front Wheel Hubs
Same procedure as rear: press bearings into the front wheel hubs, route the axle through before fastening the top cap, then screw hubs onto the knuckles using M4 screws.

Attach Main Steering Arms
Screw on the main steering arms using M3 screws at post pivots and M4 screws at chassis pivots. Tighten M4 screws to the point where the arm pivots smoothly but without slop โ€” not too tight, not too loose.

Wire Electronics
Connect the brushless motor to the 120A+ ESC per the ESC manufacturer's instructions. Connect the receiver to the ESC (throttle channel) and servo (steering channel). Mount the receiver in a protected location. Install the LiPo battery and secure with the retaining strap.
โšก
High-voltage caution. Never connect the LiPo battery until all mechanical assembly is complete and verified. Keep the battery disconnected whenever working on the car.
